WE ARE SLOW FASHION
Our workshop is located in the centre of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. Nicaragua lies in the heart of Central America; a country of crater lakes and towering volcanoes; a culture of revolutionary heroes and warrior poets; a land that captivates the soul in its difficult and beautiful contradictions.
Every Chureca Chic piece is unique, handcrafted by upcycling waste materials, sourced responsibly and ethically. We are slow-fashion. We make our pieces specifically for you, right after we receive your order. It can take between 4 - 6 weeks for your Chureca Chic jewellery to be made and wing its way from our workshop to your home.
Made with 90% repurposed materials; Chureca Chic’s paper gemstones are set individually in 925 sterling silver. The silver has been extracted from old x-ray machines and cell phones. We use no moulds, no machines, just the talent of our artisans and the love for what we do goes into each piece, showcasing our craftsmanship and art, exuding passion, sophistication and timeless quality.
Andrea Paltzer founded Chureca Chic in 2013 to catalyze social change in La Chureca, Central America's largest landfill and create a solution to the cycles of poverty and violence faced by women in Nicaragua. Alongside jobs, we provide our artisans with psychological support and training courses for personal and professional development. With the sales of our jewellery we invest into community empowerment programmes with our social partner, XtraOrdinary Women; a not-for-profit running job skill training courses and job placement services for women living in at risk situations across the capital.
"We are passionate about making an impact in our community. We believe that every woman is capable of multiplying an opportunity and, that social entrepreneurship can provide a solution for the future to gender gaps, in poverty and in education."
